Final Expense / Coverage
Some final expense policies can provide immediate coverage when approved. Others limit non-accidental death benefits during an initial period.
Simplified-issue policies usually ask some health questions. If you qualify and coverage takes effect under the contract, the full death benefit may be available without a graded period. Underwriting and effective dates still matter.
Guaranteed-issue life insurance generally does not require health questions, but commonly includes a graded or limited-benefit period for non-accidental deaths. Depending on the contract, the beneficiary may receive returned premiums plus interest instead of the full face amount during that period.
Some graded policies provide different benefits for accidental death during the waiting period. Never assume a policy includes an exception unless the actual contract states it.
What exactly triggers the full benefit? Is there a graded period? What would the beneficiary receive for natural death in the first 24 months? Are premiums fixed? How much coverage is purchased?
