Shreveport life insurance guide

What to gather, what to compare, and what to ask before you sign.

If you live in Shreveport or Bossier City and you are buying life insurance for the first time — or reviewing a policy you already own — this is the short list we wish every family had.

Gather: your date of birth, a rough sense of monthly budget, any existing policies (company, amount, premium, issue date), debts you would want paid, and who you want to protect.

Compare: the death benefit, how long coverage lasts, when full benefits begin, what happens if you miss a payment, and whether the premium can change. For whole life, also compare guaranteed cash value and how loans work.

Verify the agent. In Louisiana you can confirm a license through the Department of Insurance. Ask whether the agency is independent or tied to one company. An independent agency can compare carriers. A captive agency cannot.

Ask before you sign: Is there a waiting period? What is excluded? What medical information will the carrier need? What does this look like if my health changes later? Can I see this in writing?

You do not need to apply to have that conversation. If you want a second set of eyes on a quote you already received, bring it. We will tell you if it is a reasonable fit.
